A Free Cultural Experience Courtesy of Your Brevard Symphony Orchestra

On September 20th the Brevard Symphony Orchestra (BSO) provided a great service (With the help of several sponsors) by playing a pair of free concerts suitable for the entire family. This was the second year in a row that I have attended this concert with my family (I attended several other times in years past as a member of the media).

We were not sure whether the crowd would be larger than we experienced last year and we left a little early. Good thing too as we saw a very full parking lot as we turned onto Post Rd. By the time we walked into the King Center (And bought or bags of sugared pecans) we were not able to sit in the lower level. For a concert of this type it really doesn't matter where you sit in the King Center as there are very large monitors for those in the upper level to gain a better view of the orchestra and the acoustics too me are excellent.

The playlist from this concert allowed the younger audience to enjoy some outstanding classical music that I would venture most of them were familiar with. Let's just say that if your kids get a good dose of Tom & Jerry then they were right at home with the majority of this performance.

After each concert, the public was invited to walk over to the Rotunda to try out some of the instruments the orchestra plays and to meet some of the actual musicians. This is always a highlight for the kids in the audience as they get to try making music with instruments they might otherwise never see. I would bet that the orchestra gains some potential future musicians each time they host these concerts as children walk away awestruck by the experience.

If you missed the concerts this year let me tell you that it is worth the minimal price charged for tickets to attend one of the future concerts the BSO will put on this season. If you can't afford the price of a couple of tickets then be assured that next year the BSO will step up to provide this great cultural experience once again.

Don't miss out again.
