D.C. Tea Party March
D.C. Tea Party March

On September 12th, two full buses from Brevard County drove overnight to Washington, D.C., to participate in the 9/12 Tea Party March on the nation’s capital. The participants brought their own flags of various sizes, carried hand-made signs, and paid their own ways.

Patricia DiBella of Baytree said, “We were there to protest the debt the government is placing on our backs and on our children’s backs, and the un-American Socialism/Progressivism that is insidiously creeping in.”

The feeling of the day was patriotic with warm weather and friendly D.C. Police observing the peaceable assembly. President Obama had left town for a Healthcare rally although the march had been planned well in advance. The annual Black Family Reunion shared the space with great food and mutual support and disappointment in the President’s absence.

Walter Scott, a resident of Brevard and member of the Jewish community was caught on youtube blowing his Shofar, a ram’s horn blown in ancient days to enhance celebrations and initiate battle.

Participants felts shunned at the lack of media coverage and underestimation of the number of people present from those stations who did make mention of the march. People congregated from all ages and backgrounds with mixed political views, including many VIP’s, Congressmen, and featuring Stephen Baldwin among a myriad of speakers.

“Our founding fathers wisely ensured us the right to peacefully petition the government for a redress of grievances,” DiBella continued. “But like King George, this government ignored us.”
